01/04/2013: Turbo session

So, I finally managed to drag myself kicking and screaming to do today's turbo session!
I don't know quite what it is about motivation that makes it so easy to do some things but so difficult to do others. On the one hand, I know that I need to put the training in if I am going to progress and it would only take 5 minutes to set the bike and trainer up, but on the other hand, it is so easy just to not.

I suppose it is a battle that everyone faces on a continual basis, having to take that first step and do things that they would either rather not do, or simply don't want to, despite being fully aware that the act will be beneficial and afterwards will seem like it was so easy that they wonder what all the fuss was about in the beginning!

This is something that I will have to work on as I move forward I think. Part of the reason that I use a gym rather than training at home is it makes it very difficult, once i'm there, to not do anything or what I went there for, but, training at home makes it very easy to procrastinate!

Still, I finally managed it and set myself up in the back garden with my headphones in and worked my way through F3 (3,3,3...Uppin' It!, according to the manual) which was the scheduled work out in the training book provided by coach Dan.

Warm up: 17 mins: 5 mins pedla easy, 3x (1:00 right leg, 1:00 both, 1:00 left leg, 1:00 both)
Main:
4x3:00, sitting in easy gear, RPE <10 p="">4x3:00, stand in big gear, RPE 15-16
4x3:00, sit in big gear, RPE 15-16
Warm down: 5 mins spin

I didn't stand in the middle set as I am still a little worried about the stability of my bike in the turbo and what with being on concrete, I didn't quite fancy the fall if I toppled over.

I fluctated between gears 17 and 15 for the middle set, then progressively moving from 15-12 in the last set, trying to maintain a steady pace throughout.

I haven't managed to get a cadence sensor as yet, so I have to have my best guess of what RPM I am putting out compared to the bikes at the gym.

A good session overall and a decent first day  on the new training regime. I think this first week may be a little tough whilst my body adjusts to the increased workload, but it'll all be worth it in the end :)
