05/04/2014 - Run - long tempo run

This week has a long tempo of 6 miles scheduled which, if i'm honest, is a more daunting prospect that the other shorter but faster runs put together!

Since finishing the last marathon in December, I haven't really put any time or effort into maintain my distance ability and whilst I may have got a decent result in the Eastleigh 10km, there was no guarentee that that wasn't just a fluke result.

As with swimming and with biking, I am simply going to have to put in the time and effort If i want to make some decent progress before the summer season and luckily, I have the knowledge that I can do it if put my mind to it as afterall, I have done it before.

The milage went past pretty quickly today, although my new running style still feels very uncomfortable over longer distances despite resulting in a faster speed. The blister on my left foot is still there and hasn't gone away since Eastleigh which is a small concern, but I have picked up a few wicked looking bruising from swimming last night which will teach me to pay attention to where I am placing my feet on the walls!

I managed a fairly decent pace, teetering around the 4:30-4:45/km mark which is acceptable considering that it was supposed to be a longer recovery run and reached home feeling tired but exhilerated.

This first week of training has been pretty intense so far and I still have the biking tomorrow with Cardiff Tri and swimming on sunday to go.

The weather here i starting to pick up a bit which is a plus and the sun is making an appearance at long last. The wind is dreadful though and running up hill today at the end of the run into the wind was a new form of torture!

Still, as someone said to me not so long ago, onwards and upwards.
